1. Effective Communication: Effective communication is necessary to have improvement in communication technique. Effective communication means that sender’s expression should go handin-hand with the real intention of the message transmitted by him i.e. he should communicate the message with positive approach. For example, if a person is communicating lecture in a lazy and tired form, then that will not motivate the workers. In other words, the words and message of a person should be conveyed to each other for effective communication.
2. Increasing of Retention Power: By the proper concentration, one can increase his retention power of facts and other information. You might have observed that in comparison to lecture of class the popular television serial is remembered by us properly. Because while watching television our eves, ears and brain work in co-ordinated and concentrated manner which increases the retention power. While on the other hand, if a student hears to a lecture in a concentrated manner, he can retain the lecture properly and vice-versa.
3. Feedback: The term feedback refers to a response from the receiver of the message. In other words. when the receiver of a message replies to the message sent, he is said to have given his feedback. A feedback can be in the form of response or no-response. That is even when a receiver does not reply expressly, it is a form of feedback and implies his agreement or non-agreement to the message, as the case may be. The feedback, from the receiver of the message may be immediate or delayed. The communication process is complete only when there is a proper feedback from the receiver. Positive feedback implies success of communication process and vice-versa.

Ans. Group Discussion: A group refers to two or more persons who interact for a common purpose primarily through oral communication. Group discussions are often held for solving some problems, to take decision, to select candidate for higher studies and for other purposes. In a group discussion, the size of group is generally small consisting of eight to twelve persons. The members generally sit in a circle and discusses a given topic in group.
Guidelines for Effective Participation in a Group Discussion: The following guidelines are helpful for effective participation in a group discussion:
- Develop and sharpen your speaking and interpersonal skills. Clear thinking, good expression and other verbal and non-verbal skills are important for a group discussion.
2. Prepare yourself and have a thorough understanding of the subject on which you are asked to speak. Since the topic of discussion is unknown, familiarise yourself with the most important topics under current affairs. This can be done by reading daily newspapers, magazines and watching news and discussion on TV.
3. Learn how to analyse the subiect, argue your case while adhering to the time limit.
4. A group discussion requires co-operation and co-ordination on the part of the participants who are expected to work as a team. Any kind of hostile attitude by any one of the participants is agninst the spirit of co-operation and would hamper effective discussion. Therefore, every participant has to subordinate his ego to the larger objective of working together and completing the discussion within the specified time.

Ans. Seminar: Seminar is an important tool of oral communication. It is one form ol group communication in which different persons make a presentation or speech on a particular topic. This speech is then followed by questions and expert comments from the audience. Thus, it is a mixture of speech and group discussion. It is a kind of meeting at which people pool their knowledge, exchange their views and talk together to analyse information which is relevant to the topic set before them. Seminar provides opportunity to listed experts in a particular field of knowledge.
A seminar may be less formal but its formality cannot be denied. It is formal as it needs to be planned and organised. During seminar, one person acts as a chairman of the session and conducts the seminar by introducing the topic and the speaker. At the end of the session, he invites the audience to ask questions and ensures that the discussion follows in the light of the theme.
Features of Seminar: Various features of seminar are as follows:
1. In a seminar, discussions are held only in small groups.
2. It is an oral form of business communication.
3. Topic of discussion is generally of high academic taste.
4. It is a gathering of experts in specific fields.
5. Various experts present their views and ideas to draw some conclusion.
Conduct of Seminar: A seminar may continue for two or three days and be divided into a number of different sessions. The topic of every session is predecided and a discussion is held on that topic in that session. Each session is presided by a person who has complete knowledge of that topic known as Chairperson. He invites the participants to present their papers. Participant present his views on the topic and tells everything that he has to tell. He can project the main points of his paper onto a screen by using an overhead projector. After each paper, chairperson invites questions and comments and in this way, a discussion is initiated on the topic. While presenting the paper, reader should read the main points in an order and concentrate on consistency.
Conclusion: At the end, the chairman summarise the main points of the discussion and the conclusion reaches if any. He has also to evaluate and indicate the success of the group in achieving its obiective and finally he should thank the members for their contribution and help in examining the problem The chairman’s concluding remarks are meant to clarify the final ideas and to create a sense of achievement in the group.

Ans. Meaning of Effective Listening: Effective listening means careful and attentive listening. It is the situation in which a listener listens to the message carefully and with positive attitude. It is the process in which a listener tries to find the solution of his problems, answer of his questions and guidelines for his future action while listening to a message. He remains eager to collect as many information from the message as he can.
Essentials of Effective Listening: The essentials of effective

Ans. 1. Individual Presentation: In individual presentation, there is only one speaker who present his views on a pre-decided topic to the audience. In this, the speaker speaks without interruprion and at the end, answers the questions of the audience. Individual presentation further can be of two types:
(a) When there is one speaker and one listener.
(b) When there is one speaker and a small group of listeners.
2. Group Presentation: When more than one speakers present their views on a pre-decided topic to the audience, it is termed as group presentation.
In group presentation, one speaker speaks at one time and all other listen to him. When one has finished, another speaker speaks and presents his views. At the end, Chairperson brief the discussion and thanks all audience. Group presentation mainly occurs in meetings, seminars and conferences.
Planning of group presentation requires utmost care. Order of presentation must be determined carefully as it involves several speakers. Proper arrangement of state, lighting, background, etc enhance the impact of presentation.
Characteristics of Group Presentation: Main characteristics of group presentation can be summarised as follows:
(a) Group presentation is based on the pre-decided topic.
(b) One person from the group act as Chairperson and conducts then presentation
(c) Speakers present their views one by one in fixed time.
(d ) At the end, Chairperson gives a summary and conclusion of the discussion
(e) After the presentation is finished, the conclusions are written by the secretary.
(f) Usually group presentation is rehearsed to make it more effective
