Note :- This Section contains one question of ten parts requiring short answers. Each part carries 4 marks.

1. (i) ‘Statistics are numerical statement of facts, but all facts numerically stated are not statistics. Discuss and point out briefly.

(ii) A man has 7 children. When their average age was 12 years, the child who was 6 years of age died. What was the average of the surviving children 5 years after the death of the above child?

(iii) An investor buy * 1,200 worth of share in a company each month. During 5 months from

January to May 2014 prices of share were 10, 12, 15, 20 and 24 per share. After five months

what is the average price paid for the share by him?

(iv) Calculate Qy and Q3 from the following data:

6,9, 12, 8, 14, 13, 10, 8, 11.

(v) Find out standard deviation from the information given below:

(vii) What are the different methods of finding correlation?

(ix) What is Fisher’s ideal index number? Why is it called ideal?

(x) In a batch of 15 students, 5 students failed in a test. The marks of 10 students who passed were.

9,6,7,8,8,9,6,5, 4, 7.

What was the median of the marks of all the 15 students?

Note: Each Section contains two questions. Attempt one question from each Section. Each question carries 15 marks. Answer must be descriptive.

2. From the data given below, construct Fisher’s ideal index number:

3. Distinguish between primary and secondary data and discuss the various methods of collecting primary data and point out their merits and demerits.

6. What is meant by correlation? Does it always signify cause and effect relationship between the two variables? Explain with illustration.

Or

7. A train starts from a place and covers quarters of a km at the speed of 12, 16, 24, and 48 km per hour respectively. Average speed for the journey of km is 19.2 km per hour and not 25 per hour. Explain this fact in a manner as you will tell to a layman and verify the correctness calculation.

8. Find out coefficient of correlation between age and playing habits from the following data of students of 15 years and above:
