  1. (i) ‘Statistics are numerical statement of facts, but all facts numerically stated are not statistics. Discuss and point out briefly.

(ii) A man has 7 children. When their average age was 12 years, the child who was 6 years of age died. What was the average of the surviving children 5 years after the death of the above child?

(iii) An investor buy * 1,200 worth of share in a company each month. During 5 months from

January to May 2014 prices of share were 10, 12, 15, 20 and 24 per share. After five months

what is the average price paid for the share by him?

(iv) Calculate Qy and Q3 from the following data:

6,9, 12, 8, 14, 13, 10, 8, 11.

(ix) What is Fisher’s ideal index number? Why is it called ideal?

  1. A train starts from a place and covers quarters of a km at the speed of 12, 16, 24, and 48 km per hour respectively. Average speed for the journey of km is 19.2 km per hour and not 25 per hour. Explain this fact in a manner as you will tell to a layman and verify the correctness calculation.
