### Section – A

Note:  This Section contains one question of ten parts requiring short answers. Each part carries 4 marks.

(4×10=40) 1.

1. (i) Weekly wages of 10 workers are given below (रू.). Find out first and third quartile:

15, 20, 22, 24, 22, 25, 30, 35, 32, 28.

Ans. Refer to Unit-IV, Sec-A, Q.18.

(ii) The mean marks of 80 students were found to be 50. Later on it was found that score of 55 is misread as 75. Find correct mean.

Ans. Refer to Unit-IV, Sec-A, Q.6.

(iii) Calculate combined mean from the following:

X1 = 100, N1 = 10, X2 = 200, N2 = 20.

Ans. Refer to Unit-IV, Sec-A, Q.12.

(iv) What is meant by time series?

Ans. Refer to Unit-VII, Sec-A, Q.1.

(v) Write the formula of Fisher’s ideal index number.

Ans. Refer to Unit-VIII, Sec-B, Q.5.

(vi) Find out the standard deviation from the following:

N=10, EX = 60, EX2 = 1,000.

Ans. Refer to Unit-V, Sec-A, Q.8.

(vii) Ifr = 0.4 and N= 25, is the value of r significant?

Ans. Refer to Unit-VI, Sec-A, Q.14.

(viii) Give the names of four non-government statistical organisations.

Ans. Refer to Unit-IX, Sec-A, Q.9.

(ix) What do you mean by distrust of statistics?

Ans. Refer to Unit-I, Sec-B, Q.3.

(x) Find out median, if mean = 20 and mode = 18.

Ans. Refer to Unit-IV, Sec-A, Q.19.

Sections B, C, D & E

Note: Each Section contains two questions. Attempt one question from each Section. Each question carries 15 marks. Answer must be descriptive.

(15×4=60)

Section B

1. (i) From the following information, find out the rank coefficient of correlation:

ED2 = 50, N=10.

Ans. Refer to Unit-VI, Sec-A, Q.10.

(ii) The rank correlation coefficient between marks obtained by some students in statistics and

costing is 0.8. If the total of squares of rank differences is 33, find out the number of students.

Ans. Refer to Unit-VI, Sec-A, Q.12.

Or

1. Calculate mean and mode from the following series:
 Income Limit (रू.) No. Of persons 100-200 15 100-300 30 100-400 63 100-500 83 100-600 100

Ans. Refer to Unit-IV, Sec-B, Q.11.

1. The following table gives the annual wages of a worker together with the price index numbers. Compute the index numbers of real wages of the worker:
 Year wage Price (रू.) Index number 2000 400 100 2001 480 160 2002 700 280 2003 720 290 2004 720 300 2005 740 320 2006 750 300

Section c

Ans. Refer to Unit-VIII, Sec-B, Q.10.

Or

1. What do you mean by dispersion? How is it measured? Distinguish clearly between dispersion and skewness.

Ans. Refer to Unit-V, Sec-B, Q.1.

Section D

1. (i) A machine is depreciated by 40% in the first year, by 25% in the second year and by 10% per annum for next three years. Each percentage is calculated on the diminishing value. What is average rate of depreciation?

Ans. Refer to Unit-IV, Sec-A, Q.13.

(ii) Convert the following into continuous series and then prepare ‘less than’ cumulative series:

 Marks (mid value) 5 15 25 35 45 55 No. of students 8 12 15 9 4 2

Ans. Refer to Unit-III, Sec-B, Q.7.

1. What do you know about mode? Discuss its merits and demerits.

Ans. Refer to Unit-IV, Sec-B, Q.8.

Section – E

1. Calculate Fisher’s ideal index number for the year 2006 with 2000 as base using the following data,
 Commodity Year – 2000 Year – 2006 Expenditure (रू.) Price (रू.) Expenditure (रू.) Price (रू.) X 300 10 150 10 Y 400 8 250 25 Z 420 7 200 40

Ans. Refer to Unit-VIII, Sec-B, Q.8.

1. Find the mode from the given data:

Ans. Refer to Unit-IV, Sec-B, Q.12.
