Ans. Cultural Sensitiveness: Cultural sensitiveness implies an emotional attachment and an unconscious allegiance to one’s culture. 1. First of all, the study of the language related to that country becomes essential in order to know its culture. This would help us to understand their rituals, conventions and traditions, etc. and will strengthen our ties with the person we wish to interact.
2. We ought to study the material or books on the culture and literature of the concerned country so as to understand their history, religion, caste, politics and their rituals or traditions and besides, we shall also have a knowledge about the weather conditions, health-services, currency, transport facilities or modes and the means of communication of that nation.
3. From the business perspective, it is important to know the history and culture of the country with which we wish to build business relationship. Ans. Each person in every nation follows a particular culture and his thinking gets moulded accordingly. He firmly believes in the validity of his culture without much analysis and evaluation. He can never understand the rational of his culture unless he studies and understands the characteristics of other cultures. There do exist the cultural variations and each culture has its own merits and Homerits. Some of the scholars have divided the context into two parts: High context culture and context culture.
1. High Context Culture: It refers to where an information is transmitted through a message and there are few information which are treated as being imported. In this case, the main source of information is the message itself. The cultures of Japan, Arab and Latin America are regarded as high context cultures.
2. Low Context Culture: It refers to when the information comes from outside and that of German, Scandinavian cultures are known as Low context culture.
Causes of Variations in Cultural Context Study Notes
1. Modernity: Some of the cultures are modern, oriented on the contrary, some conservative cultures do not favour modernity.
2. Stability: Some of the cultures are stable and some remain in constant flux.
3. Complexity: Each culture has its own method of receiving information. In North America, mostly the information is transmitted through words whereas in Japan, it is done by the body language.
4. Monopoly: Some cultures have their own prerogative and independent indigenous existence and some cultures are formed by means of an amalgamation of different cultures.
5. Attitude: Some cultures are included with a sense of cooperation and some behave differently, Their behaviours do not match with that of other cultures.
6. Acceptance: Some cultures have different kinds of behaviour with different cultures as friendly or as inimical.
7. Sending Information: Every culture has its own ways of transmitting information which are transmitted according to its own way.
